By Alexa Eden
In ancient Chinese ritual, there is a concept of Feng Shui. Most of us know this term as a lackluster way of describing the “flow” of our physical space. And while the majority of us are spending more working hours at home, there’s no better time than now to discuss the science behind Feng Shui. At c3, our goal is to support your team through intentional daily choices that will ultimately make taking chances the first step toward embracing new lifestyle changes.
There has never been a more important time to nurture our workspaces to support optimized living. Evidence supports that when our physical space is designed to support our wellbeing, we perform much better, we feel better, and ultimately, we enjoy ourselves in the process. While you may not have previously considered the importance of your team’s interior design, we’re here to provide insight on how you can encourage an elevated space, for yourself and your colleagues, and achieve optimal performance for your company.
Four Tips for Creating the Ultimate WFH Experience
Create designated Space
When working from home, it can be challenging to separate your workspace from your living space (especially when living in Urban environments with less general space) It’s important to create boundaries between where you work, and where you relax. This may mean moving some things around, shedding a few extra items, or reorganizing furniture. You’d be surprised how a few simple changes can make all the difference. Check out this video from REAL SIMPLE that shares tips on how to create your at home work space.
Create Structure in Your Work Day
Motivating a team from a distance can be challenging. In fact, more and more of our clients are asking for support in how to maintain company morale during these challenging times. Creating structures in your company’s workday, can help unify your team, helping them feel supported no matter where they are. Think beyond, weekly check ins or strategy sessions, consider hosting calls or conversations that simply inspire your team. Share an interesting YouTube video, or TedTalk, host a wellness session, have employees share a talent, or introduce their pet. It’s important to allow space and time for your employees to feel nurtured, especially as we experience more stress and uncertainty in our lives.
Declutter your Home
The last thing many of us are thinking about now, is the status of our homes. However, many experts say that the state of our physical surroundings is a direct reflection of our inner landscape. By spending at least 15 minutes a day, decluttering, we can begin to see almost instant results in feeling less stress, overwhelmed, burdened or chaotic. Thrive Global shares 5 scientific reasons why decluttering can help make you happier.
Create a Self Care Corner
Having a special space to retreat to is incredibly important for times of stress. Investing in a reliable space that brings you peace and ease, means nurturing your mental wellbeing, and ultimately your overall well being. May is #MentalHealthAwareness month, so there is no better time than to encourage your very own self care corner. Ideally this corner inspires you, grounds you, and allows you to feel at ease. Consider adding, a living plant, a candle or a fresh scent (aromatherapy is scientifically proven to reduce stress and anxiety), books you love, comfortable cushions, natural light, etc.
We hope these tips support your #WFH experience. Please share a photo of your #selfcarecorner and tag @thec3method to be featured on our community Instagram!
